Journal Entry #022

Wednesday, May 20, 2020

Today, I woke up to a loud boom around 7:50am, followed by a lot of commotion from the house next door and sirens. Turns out, 2 houses down, a small explosion happened and the neighbour’s garage caught on fire.

I’ve never seen anything like that before and fear just rushed through my body because all I could think of is the fire spreading. Luckily, the fire department managed to put the flames out in about 10ish minutes, and all that was left was just the smoke clearing out. I don’t know the full extent of damage but from my place, it looks like the garage may have burnt down.

And then, a few hours later, I noticed my toilet water was brown! Ugh. Dan said to wait it out and see if it clears up by itself and it’s starting to look a little better… I’m hoping to prolong calling a plumber as much as I can considering COVID and $$$.

It was the long weekend as well so it’s a short work week this week. We didn’t do much over the weekend since it was raining but on Monday we managed to go out to UBC Spirit Park to do a trail with Summer. It’s super flat and dog friendly so it was nice for little Sum Sum. I also baked from lemon cupcakes that Dan devoured on the same day.

I also spent some time downloading Sims 4 mods because my games has been SOOOOO boring. I try to stay away from mods but I caved and just downloaded the top ones and it does add a lot of fun back into the games again.

Lately, I’ve been very “bleh” about my work to the point that I’ve actually started looking for other employments and just seeing what’s out there right now. Don’t get me wrong – I’m super grateful to be able to work full time remotely and I still love my work family but it doesn’t bring me joy is what I’m trying to say, haha. I haven’t been able to figure it out if I’m outgrowing my job OR that I feel lonely working remotely and making me feel this way.

Either way, I applied to 2 HR jobs that were sort of posted a month ago but was still up on their website. And then I gave it a shot to apply for an Operations Coordinator role. I come from a Human Resources background but making the move to Operations was in the back of my mind last year. I’m not too hard done if I don’t get any call backs but it would be nice to explore other opportunities and see what’s out there. When I return back to the office, I’d see if I still want to make the move or not.

I also get these are precarious times and also not the best time to switch jobs since I do have job security with my current employer but meh, I value work a lot and I hate feeling blase about it.

Anyways, I’m off to gather some personal documents to send off. I’m super excited to share the news if it happens but I don’t want to jinx anything! I think after work today, I’d probably just sit in front the TV for a while, hahahahaha. I’m just so mentally drained.

  1. Oh wow, that would terrify me! I am scared of fires and explosions, the very thought scares the crap out of me! Hopefully, it was nothing more than the garage and there was nothing personal inside. I understand what you mean about working remotely. I have been home since January and will be spending the next 4 years getting a degree full-time and taking online courses. I’m bored of being home already.

  2. Wow you must”ve been so scared of the explosion! 😱 I’m glad the situation didn’t worsen!

    The cupcakes look delicious!!
And I totally understand that you can feel a bit bored with your job! And wanting to have a job that brings yo happiness and in which you can personally grow is super important and it definitely doesn’t mean you’re not grateful for your current situation! 😊 Have a good weekend!

  3. I can completely relate to the fire fear. When my son was a lot younger we were home alone when my apartment complex went up in flames. The fire alarms were not up to code and didn’t go off! We didn’t even know the apartment was burning until we looked outside because people were running down the stairs. At that point several units included the one two units above ours were destroyed. I have never seen anything so terrifying and it was early in the morning too so we were in our jammies and everything. Sending good vibes!
