Journal Entry #018

I’ve been bedridden for 2.5 days already and I still feel tired!

On Sunday, at 7PM, this incredible sharp pain came out of nowhere. I put it off as just another stomachache so I took 2 painkillers and tried to ride it out. Our original Sunday plan was to have a casual dinner and rent the Joker movie but obviously that never worked out because of my stomach pains.

Eventually, it sort of subsided and I fell asleep on the couch. Dan took this adorable picture of Summer lounging next to me. She normally doesn’t stick around me too long and does her own thing but I think her doggy senses knew I was in pain and as Dan said, “wanted to protect me”.

Please ignore my puke bucket, haha.

I eventually managed to fall asleep but woke up around 12am with sharp pains again. I went to the living room to get my water bottle and the next thing I knew, my body was in shock. I couldn’t focus properly, everything was dizzy and I struggled to catch my breath. Eventually, I crawled back into our room and woke Dan up and drove me to the hospital. When he piggy back ride me to our car (such a short distance!), I even felt lightheaded.

In the ER, I got admitted asap and the doctor did some examination but couldn’t provide a straight answer. He scheduled me for an ultrasound appointment the next day (in reality, it was like 12 hours away). We were there for about 2 hours – pretty quick for an ER visit!

Yesterday, I was still in pain so I called in sick and laid in bed until my ultrasound appointment. At one point, I kept on having spasms that would cause me to struggle to breathe and my joints felt locked. The worst was having these spasms back to back 3 times before I called my Dad to come help me get out of bed. Eventually, the spasm happened again when I tried to lie down for my ultrasound and the sonographer said it happens because I tried to use my abdominal muscles.

After the ultrasound, we waited for about 2 hours before the doctor came to talk to us about the scans.

So, all the pain I felt for the last 2 days? It turns out, I had a ruptured ovarian cyst. The cyst was about 2-3 cm in size so it burst so my lower abdominal/pelvic area was filled with blood. The doctor said my body would eventually absorb all the blood and I should be fine by next week. However, for the next 3-4 days, I’d be in pain when I’m in mobile. Which makes sense, because using my abdominal muscles for walking, eating, even laughing and sneezing would cause me pain. Who knew that the abdominal muscles was used in so much everyday activities?!

So, I’m on my 2nd day of bed rest and sick day from work. God bless my awesome colleague and manager for covering my inbox!

Also, thank goodness for the invention of Chromebooks because I don’t think I can sit up straight for long period of times at the computer.

I’m spending my day catching up on some blogs and watching the Twilight segments New Moon and Breaking Dawn Part 2 (did not realize how many big actors are in Breaking Dawn!) from the couch. Occasionally, I’d nap because I’m so exhausted for some reason.

Dan and I joked, what a great way to start 2020, haha.

  1. omg, I hope you’re okay! I’ve never had a cyst like that but my best friend did and I remember she said it was so painful! I hope that you’re feeling better now and that you can get on with a better 2020!

  2. Oh man, Claire! I’m so sorry you were in so much pain. I hope your body has absorbed all the blood & you are feeling better now. ♡ So sweet that Summer stayed by you, my kitties always know when I am sad or hurting, too! Also, I watched Breaking Dawn for the first time last year & was surprised to see so many big names, too!

    1. Thank you, Hunida! I’m feeling so much better now after a week of recovering but I do not wish a ruptured cyst on anyone! It’s amazing how animals can sense that, isn’t it?! I just felt so much love for Summer when she kept following me everywhere when I was sick.

Omg, I ended up just watching the entire Twilight series again and I forgot how cringy it was but still so good, haha. Such a guilty pleasure for me. It made me want to reread the series again 😛

      1. Aw yay, Claire! I’m so happy you’re feeling much better now. ♡ & it really is so sweet how animals can sense our feelings!!

Lol I felt the exact same way about the Twilight series– cringy but I still freakin’ loved it. & I’m worried if I ever reread them I may as not think of the same since I’m much older now, y’know?
